Protect your fuel card with Secure PIN

In today’s digital age it is essential to prioritize the security of our personal information.

How does skimming occur?
Skimming involves the use of devices attached to legitimate card readers at fuel pumps. These devices are crafted to capture card information during the card-swiping or insertion process. Skimmers gather data from the card’s magnetic stripe, typically including the card number, expiration date, and sometimes the cardholder’s name. Once criminals acquire this data, they can produce cloned cards or make unauthorized purchases, resulting in financial losses for the cardholder. Detecting skimmers can be challenging, as they are often designed to seamlessly integrate with legitimate card readers.

Here are some important tips to help you prevent skimming:

  1. Location
    Opt for fuel pumps located nearest to the store or in areas with continuous surveillance.
  2. Card reader
    Examine the card reader for any indications of tampering or loose components before inserting your card.
  3. Keep your fuel card with you
    Make sure the card is never left loose in the vehicle, especially not in sight. In companies with many employees driving different vehicles, the card often remains in the vehicle itself.
  4. Enter your PIN code securely
    Research has shown that skimmed fuel cards can only be used if the PIN code is visibly filmed. Protect yourself by shielding your PIN code when entering it. We recommend, for example, covering your hand over your fingers while entering the PIN code.
  5. Verify transactions
    Ensure that you regularly check your fuel card transactions for any unusual activities that you or your employees did not perform.
  6. Block suspicious transactions
     If you notice anything suspicious in your fuel card transactions, we kindly but urgently ask you to contact our customer service immediately. They will assist you in blocking your fuel card to prevent further damage.
  7. Secure Pin
    At TFC, we understand the importance of protecting your TFC card, which is why our TFC App offers a secure PIN feature. When using the TFC App, you have the option to generate a one-time PIN code before initiating a fueling transaction. This PIN code remains valid for 10 minutes, providing a limited timeframe for completing your payment transaction securely.
